At 12:59 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, Deschutes County received a 911 call from a person reporting an attack involving someone with a long gun. Mere moments later, dozens of 911 calls were received reporting an active shooter on the campus of Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon. This school year, I have been given the privilege of teaching seventh-grade Bible. I am no stranger to teaching seventh grade. I taught seventh-grade English, along with a variety of other middle school electives, for 17 years before stepping into my current role as the Director of Student Publications at my school. However, this year I was given the opportunity to return to my middle school roots and teach a subject incredibly dear to my heart—Bible.
